So much England so little Time

London, Edinburgh, Dundee, Manchester, York(!), the Lake District, Cambridge, Aberdeen, Liverpool, Blackpool, Belfast, Glasgow, Cardiff, Leeds, Birmingham, Brighton, Oxford, Bath, Stratford-upon-Avon, Devon, Newcastle, Windsor, Canterbury, Dover, the Isle of Wight, Cornwall, the Cotswolds, Nottingham, Skegness....

The United Kingdom's WAY too big!! Little Singapore is 710.2 square kilometers and you could cross the whole island lengthwise in 2 hours. Us two Singaporeans wandering around the United Kingdom by ourselves for the first time is like pouring two goldfish from their tiny round bowl into the University of York's toxic Lake...

What is Singaporean can be adequately summarized into a wikipedia article of sufficient length.. but what is 'British'? If someone, anyone, out there is actually reading this, give us your suggestions please! We want to know where in Britian you think it's absolutely Essential for us to visit and why! Even if it's somewhere you've never been to before yourself =) Myself, I want to go to Bath and meet Jane Austen, she's still there, isn't she? Either that or go into Nottingham forest and hunt down Robin Hood.

All contributions will be so much appreciated that if we do manage to get ourselves to wherever you've suggested us to go we'll take a special commemorative picture just for You =D

  1. MING (and Hongjun), robin hood does not exist. there, now that i've burst ONE of your less important bubbles,

if I had a boyfriend and he came in time to visit me before my binding vow never to return to this country, I would take him to, quite literally, Land's End.

and then, we will do a titanic, and then probably one of us will (almost)fall off the cliff and the other heroically rescues him/her out of danger and live happily ever after. :)

  2. stratford! (which is, incidentally, an hour away from where i live). you have to, just because you're an english student haha.

pose with the commemorative statues (there's hamlet! and lady macbeth, and faustus and one more), breath in shakespeare air, watch a tragic play. have tea in a cafe (there's one with the most amazing flapjacks EVER), stay overnight in an inn (or a hotel that looks like one).

and, of course, etch your initials on the windows of the shakespeare museum. :)

  6. 2B or not 2B pencils! WOW!
Also, I didn't realise Lands End was in Cornwall when you were telling me about it the other day.
You should totally go to Cornwall... it's charming. May I also recommend Padstow as a Cornish town to visit, and also St Ives. St Ives is bloody beautiful. They have a Tate gallery there – its very arty all round. Lots of galleries, lots of private art studios. Lots of fish and chips and Cornish pasties.
    St Ives rocks.
